The agenda of the thematic group meeting included following topics:

  • Cool Up’s support on integrating cooling-relevant measures in the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) for 2024-2030 –  Dr. Sorina Mortada, Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC)
  • Update of Lebanon’s National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP) – Ms. Lara Haidar, National Ozone Unit, UNDP/ Ministry of Environment, Lebanon
  • Lebanon’s commitment to the Kigali Amendment – Mr. Mazen Hussein, National Ozone Unit, UNDP/ Ministry of Environment, Lebanon
  • Introducing the Capacity Building programme “PA-CEMP Training” starting on July 2024 in Lebanon – Mr. Khalid Salmi, Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE)
  • Insights of the Cool Up Feasibility Study and Financing Mechanisms – Ms. Maya Trad, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management
  • Identifying synergies between Cool Up and the Italian Energy Efficient Home Appliances (IEEHA) Program, implemented jointly by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and Cool Up’s country partner LCEC – Ms. Ghada Daouk, Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC)

Attendees included representatives from:

  • policy sector, including Ministry of Environment,  Ministry of Industry, National Ozone Unit,
  • financing sector, including Banque BEMO, BLC Bank Sal, and
  • industry sector, including Industrial Research Institute, Lematic Group, TRANE, Switch Group / Atalian, Farjallag Trading company /Ice berg for refrigeration,  PRAUCS, Aghasarkissian – Retailer (AC & Refrigerators), Khatib Cooling Solutions, Concorde, Libnor (Lebanese Standardization Institute), Pierre Dammous & Partners, OTB, EDL – Deir Amar Power Plant, MEAB, Dar Al Handasa, MMG Facilities Management, and USEK.

The thematic group meeting enabled knowledge transfer and collaboration on cross-sectoral level underscoring the importance of improving energy efficiency and sustainable practices in Lebanon.
