Thematic group meetings of Egypt stakeholders in 2021
In 2021 Cool Up organised and executed its first round of thematic group meetings in Egypt with relevant stakeholders in the policy, technology, market and finance space. The aim of the virtual meetings was to introduce stakeholders to the Cool Up programme, as well as garner insights on the barriers and opportunities around upscaling sustainable cooling in Egypt.
Policy and regulation thematic group meeting
The Egyptian p thematic group meeting with public sector stakeholders took place on 4 August 2021 with 41 participants. Attendees were eager to learn about the Cool Up programme and participated actively in the discussion. There were several key decision makers from the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), including Dr. Ezzat Lewis who gave a presentation on key policy developments.
Technology and markets thematic group meeting
The technology and markets thematic group meeting took place on 9 August with 70 participants. Members of the National Ozone Unit (NOU) at the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) were in attendance, including Head of Unit Dr. Ezzat Lewis, and Ahmed El Korashy. Participants were particularly intrigued to learn about capacity building initiatives and financial products that the Cool Up programme may help establish. A large variety of market players were in attendance from both the financial sector and refrigeration and air conditioning sectors, making for a lively and engaging discussion.

The next round of thematic group meetings is anticipated to take place in the first quarter of 2022 and will focus on obtaining input from policy, technology, market, and finance stakeholders on several Cool Up programme activities including an analysis of the regulatory landscape, policy recommendations, an assessment of the financial market, and a draft catalogue of sustainable cooling technologies.
