Empowering provincial leaders: Cool Up and Climate Change Directorate enhance skills in climate legislation and sustainable practices
On February 12-14, 2025, Cool Up’s country partner in Türkiye, UNDP Türkiye, collaborated with the Directorate of Climate Change in Türkiye to conduct a series of technical training sessions on sustainable and efficient cooling solutions to reduce emissions for Provincial Directorates of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change in Antalya. Over 60 government representatives from 27 provincial directorates joined the training. The presentations covered various topics, including climate change, upcoming Turkish ETS, sustainable cooling, regulations and actions on f-gases.
The technical training covered several key topics:
- Climate Change: Understanding the latest developments and impacts, and national climate action plans.
- Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Legislation: Detailed discussions on current laws and regulations, prevention of illegal trade, compliance, and best practices.
- Legislation on Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification of Greenhouse Gases: Detailed discussions on current regulations, best practices, and compliance strategies.
- Sustainable Cooling: Exploring innovative and energy-efficient cooling solutions.
The technical training was predominantly organized for the experts working in the environmental inspection units of provincial directorates of the MoEUCC. This training was crucial for strengthening the ministry’s capacity for enforcement and implementation of legislation, as the provincial directorates are responsible for field inspections in their respective provinces.
The discussions highlighted how the regulatory infrastructure defines the future direction of the country and the cooling market. Participants discussed the environmental benefits of the transition to sustainable cooling, along with its positive impacts on the national economy and technology features.
