Head of National Ozone Unit in Egypt joins workshop of Cool Up consortium
Dr. Ezzat Lewis Agaiby, Head of the National Ozone Unit, Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, and Eng. Ahmed Elkorashy, MBA (PM), National Consultant, NOU Egypt and UNIDO, participated in a workshop of the Cool Up consortium. The workshop provided a platform for reconnecting, reflecting on the first 3.5 years of the project, and discussing the milestones planned for the second half of the Cool Up programme.
Dr. Ezzat Lewis emphasized the importance of policy frameworks like the National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP) to pave the way for a sustainable cooling transition in Egypt. He noted that “The development of the NCAP requires multi-level engagement and close coordination among policy, finance, and industry sectors, which Cool Up actively supports in close collaboration with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency. The recent kick-off for the National Cooling Action Plan development marked a milestone towards the sustainable cooling transition in Egypt.”
The workshop on the occasion of this year’s Subsidiary Body conference Bonn Climate Change Conference provided the opportunity to exchange on next steps in the development of the National Action Plan (NCAP) in Egypt. The foundation for this discussion was laid on 21 May 2023 by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the National Ozone Unit (NOU) launching the first National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP) with over 50 key stakeholders from policy, technology, industry, and finance sector attending the kick-off hosted by the Cool Up programme (find more information about the NCAP launch here).
